“Actually, Paris is the most beautiful in the rain”. That is the last line of Midnight in Paris, the Wody Allen movie with Owen Wilson. And when I watched the movie and heard this sentence, I had to admit that yes, it is very true.
Last time I was in Paris it was raining too. And while you are travelling bad weather can really put you in a bad mood and mess your plans. Instead, for me it was the chance to see a new Paris, different from how I had already seen it before. Therefore, packed in my jacket and with my camera hidden to the rain by a plastic bag, I faced the weather and got lost in the town centre, walking up and down without a goal.
But why is Paris even more beautiful under the rain? Because the colours, the lights’ reflections in the streets and in the puddles, and the sky, so low and soft, reinforce its romantic soul and its scenic look. Especially in the evening, when the boulevards get rid of the tourists and leave room to the young couples who can’t resist such a charming atmosphere. And when the rain allows a piece of sky to appear amidst the clouds, the sun rays set up their show for sunset leaving everyone speachless.
You sure this all is not worth a couple of wet socks? Try to remember it next time you are in Paris on a rainy day.
Beautiful photos of Paris! I love how you’ve captured the mood and movement on the city streets.
Thanks Sonya 🙂
Yes, your shots are good, and maybe this you saw under the rain. But on the other side I found that last years Paris become more and more commercial and this is said, the old dream of Paris is going to be ruined!
Have you ever been to Versailles before and now? Nothing from this I saw during my first visit in 1997 there was the same, it is like a museum of the modern art, nothing authentic, horrible!
Everywhere you find long queue, crowd with people, “modern museums”, bad food in the restaurants.. Sorry to say but I don’t wish to go back again there!
Love the photos and agree with the sentiment. And, I love the movie Midnight in Paris!
